Documentation Getting started
Introduction
Understand what GridPreview does, how to use it and where its conclusions stop.

Research before you commit
GridPreview brings together public Dutch address, building, solar and grid information to help you prepare an energy project. Give it a confirmed address and a project type; it collects evidence, writes a report and checks whether the report is supported by its sources.
It is built for the early questions: what is known about this site, which information is missing, and what should you ask the grid operator or installer next?
A first assessment, not an approval. A report does not establish available connection capacity, structural suitability, electrical safety, financial viability or legal eligibility. Those decisions require the appropriate professional or authority.
Start here
- Using the product? Follow Your first research, then learn about project inputs and reading a report.
- Checking its reasoning? Explore data sources, the research workflow and quality gates.
- Running or extending it? Begin with local development, then review configuration and security and the API reference.
The system in one minute
Confirmed address + project assumptions

Server-side source collection

Evidence-grounded report writer
↓
Independent review + deterministic gates

One optional repair, then revalidation

Saved report + sources + checks
Source tools collect records; they are not model agents. The writer drafts the report. The independent reviewer examines sentences against their exact evidence. Deterministic checks enforce provenance, citations, freshness, quantities and safety constraints.
What you can research
| Project | Main questions |
|---|---|
| Rooftop solar | What modeled roof and production information is available? What does the published feed-in status indicate? |
| Battery storage | What do consumption and feed-in evidence and official guidance establish? What still needs an operator assessment? |
| EV or truck charging | What is known about the area, connection context and public guidance? |
| Heat or electrification | What consumption-side context and confirmation questions are relevant? |
Evidence availability varies by address and source. These project types do not imply that GridPreview performs detailed engineering calculations for every technology.
Read the status, not just the prose
A polished report can still be blocked. A partial report can pass all checks on what it actually says while disclosing unavailable evidence. Always read the status, quality checks, source dates and limitations together.
The example report on the product website is explicitly illustrative. It is not evidence of an assessment of your address, and the application does not substitute it for a real research run.
About this handbook
This documentation describes the implemented prototype. External source availability and model behavior are not guaranteed. Runtime settings and prompt snapshots can differ between saved runs; consult the version attached to a report when comparing results.
Articles are maintained as Markdown in docs/handbook/. The application renders them server-side, with formatted tables, linked headings and syntax-highlighted code examples. Examples demonstrate request shapes and commands, not fabricated research findings.
